New Single-Stage PFC Regulator Using the Sheppard-Taylor Topology - Power Electronics, IEEE Transactions on

چکیده
This paper describes a new usage of the dc/dc converter developed by D. I. Sheppard and B. E. Taylor in 1983 for achieving high power factor and output regulation. This converter may be viewed as a cascade of a modified boost stage and a buck stage, with the two stages sharing the same active switch. Two possible operation regimes are described. In the first regime, the converter’s input part, which is a modified boost converter, operates in discontinuous mode, and the output part, which is a buck converter, operates in continuous mode. In this regime, high power factor is naturally achieved, and the output voltage is regulated by duty-cycle modulation via a simple output feedback. In the second regime, the input part operates in continuous mode, and the output part operates in discontinuous mode, with dutycycle modulation maintaining a high power factor and frequency modulation regulating the output. Some comparisons between the Sheppard–Taylor converter and conventional boost and buck cascade are given in the paper.

In this paper CCM/CVM operation and modeling of the improved Sheppard-Taylor based power factor correction (PFC) rectifier is presented and a predictive control strategy is introduced for this rectifier. Compared with conventional boost or buck–boost PFC’s, this topology allows a better current tracking at the AC side, with a relatively reduced voltage at the DC side. Consequently, ...

A topological review of the single stage power factor correctted (PFC) rectifiers is presented in this paper. Most of reported single-stage PFC rectifiers cascade a boosttype converter with a forward or a flyback dc-dc converter so that input current shaping, isolation, and fast output voltage regulation are performed in one single stage. The cost and performance of a single-stage PFC converter...

In this paper a single-inductor dual-output (SIDO) buck-boost PFC converter operating in critical conduction mode (CRM) is proposed. By multiplexing a single inductor, each output of SIDO buck-boost converter can be regulated independently. Compared with conventional two-stage multiple output converter, SIDO buck-boost PFC converter benefits from significant overall cost saving, small size and ...
متن کاملImproving dynamic response of power-factor correctors by using series-switching postregulator
A new method to improve the dynamic response of power-factor correctors (PFC’s) is described in this paper. The method is based on the use of a new very highly efficient postregulator, called a series-switching postregulator. This new postregulator exhibits very high efficiency due to the fact that only a part of the total power undergoes a power conversion process. The proposed postregulator c...
متن کاملA modular single-phase power-factor-correction scheme with a harmonic filtering function
Power supply systems in telecommunication applications employ several parallel-connected ac-to-dc and dc-to-dc power converters. Such a system offers modularity, redundancy, and is easily scalable to higher power levels. Such parallel-connected systems normally consist of several single-phase powerfactor-correction (PFC) stages connected to the same input utility. In this paper, a modular singl...
